Driving through Bowen while towing a caravan is easy, thanks to its wide streets and lack of peak-hour traffic. At first glance, it may appear to be a sleepy old town, but there is plenty to do.
We stayed at the Harbour Lights Caravan Park, which is conveniently located close to the harbour and jetty. We enjoyed morning and evening walks along Santa Barbara Parade. During the day, as you stroll along the foreshore, you’ll come across historical plaques embedded in the pathway and a large, bright Bowen mango that stands out.
Bowen has a bright future ahead with a $68 million jetty currently under construction.
We also took a drive to Flagstaff Hill, where the view from the top is breathtaking. On a sunny day, you can appreciate the aqua-blue water paired with a stunning mountain backdrop. The unique colour of the water in the Whitsunday area is truly remarkable. Additionally, you can enjoy great views from the water tower with its great mural art. You can also see the salt works mine in the distance. The Australian Saltworks at Bowen produces salt that goes into feed for livestock and pools.
Bowen has a waterfront golf course if you feel like playing a round of golf . The clubhouse features a newly refurbished bar and offers great views from the veranda. The club staff are exceptionally welcoming and attentive, always ready to assist with a smile. Their friendly demeanor creates a warm atmosphere where members and guests feel valued and comfortable.
