In Medana, Lombok, Indonesia, traditional transportation includes Cidomo horse and cart, motorcycles, or hiring a car with a driver. Having departed Australia two months ago, we found ourselves in September, eager to replenish our meat supply. A short drive to Batu Layar from Medana Marina led us to The Cowshed Butchershop, our go-to spot for chicken, lamb, beef, and pork – a wholesale and retail provider for hotels and restaurants. With offerings like chilled and frozen beef, including mince, sausages, and burger patties. The butcher shop showcased engaging memorabilia featuring rock legends like Creedence, Rolling Stones, Bob Seger, B.B. King, and others. Additionally, humorous signs adorned the walls, playfully promoting the merits of meat consumption.
Back at the marina, resisting the allure of local Indonesian vendors proved challenging, as they presented an array of wooden painted bowls and various knick-knacks. Succumbing to the temptation, we ended up acquiring several bowls and key rings from the enthusiastic vendors.
