As you approach Phi Phi Island, the massive rock structures have a unique appearance. Depending on the time of day, the rocks change colour, adding to their beauty.
Many tourists frequent this area. According to fellow sailors we’ve conversed with, the daytime atmosphere resembles a crowded beach, reminiscent of a penguin colony.
Arriving at 1:30 p.m., we anchored near the entrance, greeted by a spectacular view of the rock and a multitude of boats. From 2:00 p.m. onwards, a significant number of them started departing,, and there were a massive number of boats. Many of them began leaving from 2:00 p.m. onward. While we waited for the crowds to leave the beach, we decided to put on our snorkel gear and snorkel around our boat. However, this turned into a misadventure because I was nearly run over by a boat speeding in to the anchorage. It was too dangerous to snorkel when so many boats were leaving.
As evening approached, monkey beach was nearly deserted; only a couple of vessels remained at the anchorage. It was peaceful, with the absence of boat motor noise. The sun was setting below the horizon, and the pink tones in the sky were stunning.
