We’ve had an incredible time cruising through central Sulawesi, stopping at Tolitoli and Buol. The warmth of the Indonesian people, always smiling, adds to the charm and they have impressed us with their wonderful hospitality.
Assigned to each vessel are our guides; they were waiting for us at the harbour pier shortly after our arrival. Navigating Indonesia is made effortless with our English-speaking tour guides. Most of the guides are English school teachers who have taken time off work to make sure the Down Under Rally Fleet enjoys their time in Tolitoli.
In Tolitoli, our first day led us to Tinading Village, where we immersed ourselves in traditional dance, enjoyed a locally sourced lunch, and explored the local mosque and Hindu Temple. We also relished visiting the Lonu Coffee Plantation, where we sampled the coffee and witnessed the traditional coffee bean grinding process. It was a lovely place to enjoy a cup of coffee by the lake.
We had an educational tour of the vocational school at Leok Li, engaging with the trainees, which included dressmakers, dancers and nurses. They showcased their skills, providing insights into their professions. Studying anatomy appears challenging yet fascinating.
On the second day, we ventured to Melangga Village, a narrow, bumpy road nestled in the mountains. The day unfolded with captivating song and dance performances, traditional cuisine, and a showcase of Pencak Silat performances (Indigenous Martial Arts).
On our first day in Buol, the kind people of Buol welcomed us warmly. Our itinerary comprised visits to four schools, and we capped off the day with a delightful lunch, savouring the local delicacies by the Tirtarya Waterfall.
On day two, an enchanting welcome ceremony unfolded at Negeri Lama Beach, featuring delicious food, captivating dances, martial arts displays and many enjoyable games with the locals. The day reached a pinnacle with a gala dinner held at the King’s residence, creating an unforgettable experience.
