Dangar Falls National Park is a short drive south of Armidale. The drive to the Park is bitumen with 9 kms of dirt road. The dirt road is in good condition for driving, and the beautiful scenery makes the trip enjoyable. As we approached the park entrance with the caravan, we slowed down to avoid low branches, but we managed to get through without any issues.
There are seven campsites available, and they are free of charge. However, you must book in advance and pay an administrative fee of $6 when you make the reservation. The campsite offers great facilities, including fire pits, a cooking grill plate that you can swing out over the fire pit, and provided firewood. The sites are spacious and flat. Upon our arrival, we were greeted by local kangaroos observing our every move.
Later that evening, we were lucky enough to spot an echidna foraging for food.
After setting up, we went for a stroll to see the gorge. It was an amazing sight. The steep, sloping cliffs down to the water were stunning. It’s hard to capture it on camera; seeing it with your own eyes is best, and the best viewing would be after rain. In the early morning, the mist rolls into the valley and then slowly rises as the temperature increases.
