We had a bouncy trip to Glen Aplin and booked a two-night stay at a Hipcamp site on the outskirts of Stanthorpe. Our Hipcamp served as a great base, conveniently located just a short drive from Girraween National Park and Stanthorpe. We gathered some firewood stockpiled for campers; as the evening brought cooler temperatures, we enjoyed keeping warm with the fire and roasting marshmallows.The night was beautiful, with stars shining brightly in the sky. As we looked up, we were suddenly amazed by a massive explosion of light—an unexpected meteor! It was a fantastic sight that took us all by surprise. Later, our research discovered it was part of the Lyrid Meteor Shower, which left a lasting impression on us.
Our next destination was Girraween National Park. This park is filled with giant granite rocks shaped by Mother Nature over time. The walk through the park is delightful, as water has carved a path through the rock formations. Along the track, you’ll encounter the impressive granite arch, which is a fantastic sight and perfect for a photo shoot.
The pyramid dominates the landscape; you can’t help but look up at it. It is an enormous lump of granite rock that you can climb, and you will be rewarded by the fantastic views at the top. Even if you can’t reach the top, you can still enjoy great views halfway up.
Stanthorpe is a vibrant tourist town filled with charm and character. We savoured delicious cake and rich coffee at Slaps Espresso House, where the aroma of freshly brewed beverages filled the air. Afterwards, we stocked up on groceries at a local market, selecting fresh produce and local delicacies. We also made a quick stop at the nearby hardware store, where we found a few essential items we needed for our trip. It was a delightful day spent exploring the unique offerings of this lovely town.
