Kings Canyon is nestled right between Alice Springs and Uluru, making it the nice spot to explore! When we pulled into Kings Canyon Discovery Park, we were blown away by the amazing view from our caravan site. It overlooked Watarrka National Park and the breathtaking Kings Canyon. The steep, rugged rock cliffs are just gorgeous, showcasing vibrant red tones are truly picturesque.
We set our alarms for an early morning to check out the light and sound installation by Bruce Munro at sunrise. It features 69 towering structures made from 214 recycled bottles each, which change colors to a celestial soundscape by Orlando Gough. While the sunrise light show wasn’t quite what we had imagined, we were hoping for some dazzling laser lights and incredible music. On the bright side, we managed to capture some photos.
After the light show, we packed our backpacks and whipped up some tasty sandwiches. Then, we hit the road to Kings Canyon to experience the rim walk that so many people had raved about!
The walk starts with a steep climb to the top of the Canyon, and then you’ll get to stroll along the beautiful canyon plateau before heading back down to the car park. It usually takes about 3-4 hours to complete the rim walk, and trust me, you’ll want to take your time. There are tons of great spots to soak in the views, and the informative signboards along the way will teach you all about the amazing native wildlife, plants, and the fascinating geology of the area. We enjoyed our hike!
