Just a short drive from Toowoomba is the charming town of Oakey. We chose to spend the night at a lovely Hipcamp, conveniently located just off the Warrego Highway. The campsite provided a spacious, flat area perfect for parking our caravan, creating a serene setting for a restful stay.
As soon as we arrived, we were warmly welcomed by a joyful pack of dogs, their exuberant barks ringing in the air. These friendly dogs were full of energy and thrilled to receive some affection, making us feel right at home.
The walk into town gave you insight to small town. Earlier that afternoon, we were treated to the impressive sight of Chinook helicopters soaring above us, conducting practice runs for the upcoming ANZAC Day celebrations.
For those interested in aviation, the Australian Army Flying Museum is merely a short drive away and is well worth a visit. Overall, Oakey made for a wonderful stop, and I highly recommend exploring this hidden gem!
Our recent visit to the Australian Army Flying Museum was truly a fantastic experience! We had the exciting opportunity to enter the Chinook helicopter, settling into the spacious troop seating that lines the interior. From there, we could gaze into the cockpit area, taking in the various instruments and controls that the pilots use during flight. While exploring the fascinating display, a knowledgeable volunteer informed us that Kirk Russell had previously visited with his entire movie set team to film scenes for the Godzilla movie. The idea of such a famed production being filmed in the very space we were standing added to our experience.
